At the very heart of Marytown is Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, a sanctuary of perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Considered one of the most beautiful pilgrimage sites in the nation, the chapel was commissioned before the 1926 International Eucharistic Congress in Chicago by, then, Cardinal Mundelein who wanted a permanent sanctuary of Eucharistic Adoration to pray for seminarians and priestly vocations.
The Benedictine Sisters of Clyde, Missouri built the chapel modeled after the patriarchal Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls in Rome. The chapel’s stained glass, mosaics, and marble work have been instilled with a spiritual symbolism that expresses the richness of the Catholic tradition that is the Roman Catholic Church.
When it opened in 1928, the chapel became a sanctuary of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The sisters resided and prayed here for 50 years until 1978, when the Conventual Franciscan Friars began to minister here.
Visit our beautiful chapel through our CHAPEL LIVE STREAM, or come to Libertyville, IL and visit us in person. Either way, may you come to know the Eucharist Lord more deeply and grow to love the Church that he founded here on earth for our final sanctification.
The Chapel is open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for Eucharistic Adoration and prayer.
And they shall make me a sanctuary, and I will dwell in the midst of them.” – Exodus 25:8
